The top # Ways to Reduce Waste

I have been on an upcycling journey for five years now and I must confess that it has been so fulfilling. In 2017 I bought my very first glass bottle cutter after failing at many YouTube video attempts 🙂 Firstly, let me tell you a bit about upcycling. “Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless, or unwanted products into new materials or products perceived to be of greater quality, such as artistic value or environmental value.”

I am have been focusing on upcycling empty glass bottles and transforming them into reusable products of better value such as drinking glasses, flower and decorative vases, lamps, pendant lights, succulent gardens, landscaping among others.

At the moment, am interested in sharing my acquired skills with others through monthly workshops both in person and online eventually.

  • Glass Bottle Painting
  • Lighting Projects

Our Jewelry Making Journey

Allow we to introduce myself; my names are Bright Sight owner and founder of BSC Lifestyle Boutique. BSC is an abbreviation for Bright Sight Collections not limited to jewelry making. I made my first jewelry accessory in 2012 exactly the same year that I was convinced this was it.

I was lucky enough to have a mentor of sorts who truly helped me on my journey of self-discovery. After graduating from University with a Bachelors Degree in Economics and Management (specialized in Trade Law and Policy); I worked a few jobs employed of course but it was not long before I realized that there was more to life and work than being employed. Due to some reasons that I might share later on, I truly became eager and hungry to discover my passion in the sense of work that I can do well whilst enjoying it at the same time.

My younger sister who was still in Law School at the time had a friend that I truly admired not just as a lawyer in the making but I almost drooled over her creative senses from jewelry making to pastel paintings among others. I did buy her handmade jewelry accessories and wore them almost everyday. My work colleagues and friends really admired the jewelry accessories which got me thinking about learning the art of the same.

I remember approaching my sister’s friend and sharing with her my need for self-discovery as far as work was concerned. I wanted to explore and see if there was any artistic traits within myself. My proposition was to help her sell the jewelry at work whilst in exchange she would teach me how to make jewelry. She agreed to this and indeed this went surprisingly well. While at it, I was able to do a market survey of sorts which also convinced me that it was something that I could explore more. She taught me jewelry making and oil pastel painting of which the accessories won me over. I however still admired paintings and love them too.

I am grateful till this day for her willingness to teach me and for being teachable 🙂 Knowing that I had such a skill gave me the courage to quit my last employment as a customer service advisor to embark on my own journey as a jewelry designer. This took lots of practice and the more I did it, the better it got. I hope that you enjoyed this read and that it can inspire you to step out of your comfort zone and learn a new skill.

As of today we offer various D.I.Y Workshops which include Jewelry Making at three learning levels. Should you want to participate or subscribe someone; do send us a message through the contact form on the website. We also have a Whatsapp Messenger icon on our website for instant messaging.

Brand Ambassador for BSC Lifestyle Boutique

Meet Ashleigh my beautiful friend and brand ambassador for my small business at http://www.bsclifestyle.com

This is an appreciation post 🙂 I met Ashleigh at a Modelling School and Agency in Harare where we trained well together. We later part ways after all the grooming and etiquette classes as she went back to finish her studies and I to mind my young family. To cut the long story, we stayed in touch and mostly on phone and social media only to meet again during the pandemic. We did some catching up and sharing diverse ideas about life. One day while at brunch we came up with the idea of her representing the Brand BSC Lifestyle Boutique.

She later on proposed a professional photo shoot which made a lot of sense and I had been procrastinating for years (very bad habit but now in the past). There I was feeling motivated and energized to work towards this. It took me less than a month to prepare all the necessary products among other requirements for the photo shoot. You can find most of these on my website www.bsclifestyle.com and also follow her on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/sky__leigh__/

You can see some of my work in the photo above and here below; Turquoise Jewelry, Cowhorn Bangles, Brass and Glass Candle Holders, Glass Candle Sticks, Recycled Glass Wind Chimes, Glass Coffee Cups, Upcycled glass bottles into green Planter, Blue Sapphire Flower Vase, Protea Drinking Glasses, Gold tone 3 in 1 Candle Holder and Candles in many shapes.

Recycling Wine Bottles

These clean cut glasses are a result of empty wine bottles. Cleaned, cut and sanded to perfect smoothness. I have used green bottles in this picture but there are many more colors you can use from clear glass, brown, blue, black among others.

Recycling Part 3

That moment when you choose your favorite bottle of wine or whatever has a cork on it. And then you can’t find <<tire-bouchon>> corkscrew. And guess what you got guests – hmm. I have seen a few people push it in with a knife or anything that can literally push it down into the bottle. They still drank and had a good time. Now let me tell you what crossed my mind at that moment in time… Just look at this picture – IDEAS

wine corks.jpg

Since then I have known how to keep mine close – readily available 🙂 given the fact that I have found myself collecting all these corks particularly from wine bottles. I had different ideas as compared to what is portrayed in the breezy picture above. I saw this on google images DIY and it did attract my attention given my jewelry making background. I never imagined beads on corks but well, I am definitely going to try a similar project which I should be able to share asap  #diyadvocate #saynotolitter #Recycling seriesecycleandreuse

Soon…

I think this is creative, beautiful and I just love the color splash

Barbara Briggs Designs

I’ve been working on a series of Geometric “Color Play” Pentagon Drop Earrings over the past several weeks. I finished a pair last week in a Mango Brights colorway…the pair in this photo is worked in a Caribbean Brights colorway and is almost finished!  Now onto the tutorial to go along with the design and both colorways as well as beading kits. They should be ready by early next week if not sooner.  Stay tuned!

Recycling and Up-cycled Glass

My previous post was about how to reuse and recycle paper. I shared just a few ideas but there is so much more. Today I will share about wine, whiskey, rum mention it glass bottles.

And then we sipped wine, sipped and sipped on until one day it struck my mind.

What shall we do with all these empty bottles?

Then I saw that all bottles were unique in a way and some were really appealing to the eyes. I will be sharing some pictures of my favorite bottles in the next post. For now I will share with you what transpired. RECYCLE, REUSE, UP-CYCLE

Then I went on a workshop hunt for the necessary equipment and manpower. Oh how I loved the outcome! I have never looked back since and I see an opportunity to make the world a better place in every empty bottle that is about to go to waste thus polluting our environment. I have decided to be a friend of the environment and work on these amazing Eco-friendly projects. Are these so beautiful – imagine them in all possible colors.

Cute little Ducklings – Patience, Love, Faith, Salvation

duckies

When I look at these cute little ducklings following Mother Duck with a lot of faith; It makes me reflect on my own life in different ways. Follow #Jesus today, leave everything behind you and put him first. The Bible tells us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts, and lean not on our own understanding, then He shall direct our paths. (Proverbs 3:5-10)

I hope my little princess will do the same; and it’s my prayer. My responsibility to direct her unto righteousness with words of encouragement and wisdom. I encourage all parents especially mothers to be patient with our Children. ❤
